Unfortunately Shaped…
When I was writing at Gizmodo, we had several hard-and-fast categories we could throw our posts into. Several of them, we never ever used, while I pined away (and bitched at Joel) for what I would have thought would make blatantly obvious additions. (Like “Wi-Fi.”) Moving with the speed of a wounded brontasaurus on Quaaludes, Nick Denton & Co. finally transitioned into a tag-based system. (For other examples of Gawker’s slow-played pursuit of blog-software trends, just remember that they only just recently invented comments.)
Nevertheless, tags really are the future. Before tags, a Gizmodo search of “unfortunately shaped” may have garnered few working results, but that’s mostly because Gizmodo’s search utility was in awful shape. Now, a quick visit here shows you everything John & friends have deemed “unfortunately shaped.” And boy, do we know what that means.
Thanks be to Tony (he’s to your right.) for bringing this gem of a tag to my attention.
